Towards a Benchmark for Shared Databases [Vision Paper]

Abstract Traditionally, data has been held in silos and was rarely shared with other organizations. However, recently sharing across organizations is becoming more important as evidenced by governmental industrial initiatives such the EU strategy. As a result, both academia industry have proposing new systems for databases, that allow multiple to collaboratively insert manage common database. Yet, each system seems come its own architectural choices custom guarantees make it hard users navigate plethora of database systems. While standard benchmarks like TPC‑C benchmark well-established tool compare analyze traditional systems, they seem be unsuited evaluate This because these are built fundamentally different assumptions mind, threat/trust model since (untrusted) parties access modify same data. In this paper, we present vision initial ideas databases capture their unique characteristics.
